Spiritual Healing - some questions answered

What is it?

The Healing of mind, body and soul by means of prayer and meditation and the laying on of hands. This healing can be effected by contact with the patient or by means of absent or distant healing.

What does it do?

Whilst no guarantee of part or whole of a cure can be given, Spiritual Healing can be beneficial to sufferers of any form of disease or illness. This form of healing is often used to supplement other forms of treatment the patient may be receiving from a GP. It can help to eliminate pain, to reduce stress and anxiety.

Who practices Spiritual Healing?

Trained Healers working under the auspices of a Governing Body. There is a Hierarchy of Healing Organisations which is governed by an overall body, The Confederation of Healing Organisations which has thirteen constituent groups dotted all over the country.

Where do Healers work?

Healers treat patients in their own homes, at Churches/Centres/Clinics and in Hospitals, Hospices and Therapy Centres.

Recent legislation now permits a Doctor to recommend a Healer to their patient provided that the doctor retains overall responsibility for his patient. There are now both Government financed and private Healing Centres in this country where Spiritual Healers and Therapists work together.

When can you receive it?

The two methods - Contact and absent can be used on a regular basis and are very often used together. Contact Healing means that you and the healer are present together, not necessarily ‘hands on’ healing. Absent healing is when the healer ‘sends’ healing to a patient by prayer, meditation or thought.

There is a general feeling by the sections of the public that are not yet very aware, that Contact Healing is the ‘One’. However it is far more effective to use them both together.

Distant Healing is now used very extensively and is acknowledged as very effective by many who have benefited. The way that it is used to gather the healing energies has a certain power and majesty to it. Virtually all Healers and Healing organisations have an absent healing list which is always being updated.

Healer Training

The governing body and its constituent organisations have established a Code of Conduct and Training Programme which are followed by all healers that wish to eventually become Full Healer members of the Organisation to which they belong; they are registered and covered by insurance. The Foundation Spiritual Healing Course involves extensive learning of Physiology and Anatomy, Practical Healing and Meditation, Attunement, Elementary Counselling, study of the Code of Conduct, Record Keeping, relationships with the professions and patients, confidentiality etc. all as laid down by the Governing Body.

The training at our Clinic involves attending the theory sessions, which are run before the Clinic opens, for as many weeks as is necessary to cover the syllabus. We are fortunate in that as we are not having to book extra rooms, each subject can be discussed in depth with no concerns as to time scale. At the same time, the probationer healers join with the qualified healers for the Healing Clinic, and work under their guidance, gaining experience, until the two year probationership is finished, and his or her application to the constituent body for Full Healer membership, supported by letters from patients and other recommendations for suitability can be considered by the Trustees.

Payment

Many healers rely on voluntary donations from the patient to defray costs. However this is up to the individual healer and the patient.

Summary

The objective of every healer must surely be, whether voluntary or paid, to endeavour to provide relief from pain and suffering, whether of the mind body or the soul, to give a little upliftment and encourage patients to continue a self healing programme.
